NYC Severe Weather Possible Wednesday

08/26/24 8:57am

Good morning everyone. We have a warm and sticky day in the Northeast, and that’ll be the theme for the next few days until a powerful cold front sweeps through on Wednesday. Look for the slight chance of some scattered storms today, then widespread morning fog tomorrow as we remain warm and muggy. Ahead of the front, we’ll have a wide swath of 90 degree temps on Wednesday before a formidable line of severe weather breaks the heat for a September-like day on Thursday.

In the Southeast, we’ll have your typical afternoon variety heavy showers & storms in parts of Florida, but the tropical feed enhancing the storms will settle down for a couple of days. Look for the tropical-enhanced action to start up again some time next Monday or Tuesday with a -/+ 1 day margin of error on that.

For today, we turn our eyes to parts of the Upper Midwest, where we could see a severe weather outbreak in parts of South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and possibly into Wisconsin from later today into the morning hours tomorrow. We’ll also include eastern Wyoming, eastern Colorado, and possibly the southeast corner of Montana in on this conversation, because this is where the storms will originate from.

Look for scattered showers and heavy thunderstorms to develop over parts of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, then head into the plains and erupt. These storms will organize into severe clusters and/or organized multi-directional lines. These storms will be capable of very large hail, damaging winds in excess of 70mph, torrential rain, frequent lightning, and strong tornadoes.

Stay tuned to your local agencies for the latest watches and warnings. Be prepared to take action in order to save property and life. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

WEATHER RADAR

Look for morning fog and low clouds tomorrow, then a mix of sun & clouds and muggy conditions again. We’ll have highs in the mid to upper 80’s with no storms expected. Wednesday is the hottest day of the week as that cold front approaches. We’ll have oppressive conditions as highs reach the mid 90’s with very high dew points.

We’ll watch strong to severe weather develop in western Pennsylvania and western New York, then race to the east/southeast. Damaging winds will be the biggest risk, but we could also see large hail and a few tornadoes.

Things calm down on Thursday as we go much cooler and a steady cool flow. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70’s with sunny skies. Sunshine continues on Friday with more comfortable conditions in the mid to upper 70’s.
