NYC Snow Likely Before Changeover to Mix
02/07/25 10:48am
Good morning everyone. Our active, fast-moving pattern in the Northeast continues onward as another snow, sleet, and rain-maker is on its way. While most areas are enjoying a seasonably chilly day today, clouds will be on the increase tomorrow.
Overrunning precipitation is the name of the game here, and we’ll have one round of it late Saturday into Sunday, then another late Tuesday into Wednesday. Tomorrow’s system will bring some wet snow to the NYC area starting some time between 5-7pm before mixing with sleet and freezing rain overnight into early Sunday morning. Snowfall amounts will be in the 2-5″ range depending on when mixing occurs, but we could also see an upside surprise if mixing happens later on or not at all.
Those at the biggest risk for an upside surprise will be the north shore of Long Island and the Bronx. North of the area across southeast New York and Connecticut, it’ll likely be all snow. Across this region, 5-10″ of heavy wet snow is possible. For New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the changeover will happen faster, so look for a brief period of snow, then we’ll have to watch for sleet, freezing rain, and cold rain.
Here is your local NYC Metro Forecast –
SATELLITE
We have a fairly calm and sunny day today with highs in the low 40’s early, then dropping through the 30’s during the afternoon.
WEATHER RADAR
Clouds increase tomorrow with snow developing late afternoon/early evening. Highs in the mid 30’s will mean it’ll take a little time before snow begins to accumulate, but we will eventually see 2-5″ possible before we get a layer of ice and sleet. We could see amounts bumped up to 4-7″ if the changeover happens later than expected.
Look for morning mix or cold rain on Sunday, then partial clearing and upper 30’s.
Monday looks sunny and cold with mid 30’s, then cloud increase Tuesday with the chance of snow developing late. Tuesday’s system has the chance to remain all snow depending on the final track, and we could see another light to moderate accumulation.
