NYC Snow Mixing With Sleet Likely Late Afternoon
Good afternoon everyone. A complicated forecast continues as it slowly devolves into a “nowcast”. Snow, heavy at times, continues across a wide swath of the Northeast and the NYC Metro Area. All indicators show that sleet will begin to mix in with the snow some time between late afternoon and evening. In some places, that mixing may be elusive or cold air fights back due to heavier precipitation pulling the firgid air back down through the atmosphere; turning things back to snow.

At this point, we’ll have to watch individual locales and the radar to see where mixing begins and continues to occur. For northern parts of NYC and possible the north shore of Long Island, I’, leaving accumulations at 10-14″ with a crunchy layer of sleet and freezing rain on top. For the south shore of NYC and Long Island, look for 6-10″+ of snow, with a thicker layer of sleet and freezing rain over the top.
WEATHER RADAR
When sleet begins will dictate how high on the totals we go. Regardless, temperatures in the teens are failing to budge, but we could see some temps rise into the low 20’s tonight. AM freezing rain and sleet will give way to sunshine and blustery conditions tomorrow. Highs near freezing tomorrow and lows in the teens tomorrow night, will help turn our snow and sleet into a cement, so make sure you clear as much as you can tomorrow.
The rest of your workweek is frigid, with highs 20-25 and lows 5-10. Be safe everyone!
