NYC SPRING TASTE AHEAD MINUS SHORELINE
NYC SPRING TASTE AHEAD MINUS SHORELINE
NYC SPRING TASTE AHEAD MINUS SHORELINE – Good morning everyone. Aside from areas with shadows, it’s hard to tell we got any snow Saturday night; and today’s mild temps with afternoon rain should finish the job on that chapter. The rain heading our way begins our trek towards a taste of spring, but not everyone will see it, so get ready to hear some complaining by your friends at the coast.
We start off partly to mostly sunny this morning, then clouds will lower and thicken with the advance of warmer air. As of now, I don’t see anything heavy or prolonged as most of the energy goes to our north. We’ll just see some light rain from late afternoon/early evening into tonight, then it’ll be replaced with fog and drizzle. Highs today will be near 50 in most areas.
Tomorrow, we warm up even more, but remain cloudy for the most part. Look for some morning fog and drizzle, then mostly cloudy throughout the day. Highs will be in the mid 60’s, possibly upper 60’s if we see some extra sun. However, the immediate shore will most likely remain in the 50’s due to the cold ocean which is still in the 30’s.
Fog returns overnight tomorrow as the marine layer tries to fight back hard. How fast it can burn off will dictate how Wednesday will go. If fog burns off by early to mid morning and we get some sun, look for highs near 70 away from the shore. The cutoff will probably be the Belt Parkway for NYC and Merrick Road/Sunrise Highway for Long Island. (East end of Long Island will not see 70 regardless) Areas north of these roads are more likely to see 65-70, whereas areas south will see much cooler temps due to the cold ocean and prolonged fog/clouds.
If a miracle happens and everything burns off everywhere early, we could achieve low to mid 70’s in inland spots, low to mid 60’s along the shore. Rain returns Wednesday night as do cooler temps on Thursday. Look for upper 40’s to near 50 both Thursday and Friday, and we’ll be in and out of clouds and showers for the remainder of the week. We warm up a little more over the weekend, with a return to 50’s, possibly near 60.
In the long range, there is no major cold air in site and no snow as well. Remember, this could change with one big low pressure given the right path, but there’s nothing on the horizon that this point.
The clock is ticking on winter and in my opinion, there is nothing to suggest we are in store for any prolonged periods of below normal temps for the NYC metro area.
