NYC Thunderstorm Risk Continues As Hot Weather Builds

Good morning everyone. Low pressure continues to spin away off of New England, and that’ll keep the chance of scattered storms in the Northeast for today. Meanwhile, a hot pattern is building and a heatwave or heatwave-like conditions are possible next week.

Today will be familiar if you remember yesterday, with morning sun, building afternoon clouds, and scattered showers and storms. Some storms may be locally severe, containing hail and strong gusty winds. The incidents of hail seem to be waning compared to the past few days, but we’re keeping it in the forecast so nobody is caught off guard. There were a few cells yesterday which had pea to marble size hail. Highs today in the 80-85 realm & humid.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow we dry out a bit, but the air heats up fast. Expect upper 80 to near 90 temps, and the very slight chance of an afternoon storm. For Friday, we should break 90 in many spots, and we’ll keep the slight chance of a storm in there.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Your 4th of July on Saturday look slightly cooler and dry, with highs in the mid 80’s, then the heat returns for Sunday with near 90 temps.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

The pattern is trying to head in a direction in which a ridge forms along the east coast and midwest. If we find ourselves in the ridge and not on the edge or boundary line, the area will experience a decent stretch of 90-95 degree weather. As stated before, Sunday is near 90, Monday should be near 90, Tuesday near 90, and Wednesday onward we may break 90 each day into the following weekend. We’ll see if it all pans out, then break down the exact temps if the ridge builds strong enough.
