NYC Thundery Showery Muggy Wednesday
07/24/24 8:40am
Good morning everyone. The Northeast is socked in with clouds, showers, thundershowers and muggy conditions for today and tomorrow until we can get some clearing on Friday. There’s a tiny strip of sunshine from northwest Pennsylvania into western and central New York, but that’ll come with a price later.
Our low pressure system that brought isolated severe weather to parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan, will be riding into Canada today and sweeping its “tail” across New York and Pennsylvania. While the rain is confined to the coastal plain, Catskills, and Allegheny, look for a narrow line of heavy thunderstorms to develop from western NY down into central PA. That wave bumping up against sunshine and high humidity, will provide the energy and lift needed to help create some nasty weather.
Like yesterday, these storms are expected to contain isolated severe weather, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary risk. However, we could see more severe weather reports today as opposed to yesterday. All in all, moisture finally clears out of the entire area by tomorrow night; replaced by sunshine and very warm/hot conditions.
We also see a continuation of soaking tropical showers and rumbles across the Gulf States. A tropical feed of moisture is still streaming up from the Gulf of Mexico, across coastal Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. Eventually, that feed will interact with our slow moving front entering the North Carolina area, giving them the risk of some severe weather tomorrow eve/night.
Stay tuned for the latest watches and warnings. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
