NYC Transition Week Begins & Warmer Conditions Heading Our Way

Good morning everyone. Most of this week is going to be a “rough” one in terms of getting out of the basement with these cool temps, but changes are brewing and we should start feeling the fruits of those changes by Thursday and Friday.

SATELLITE

For today, low pressure is spinning our way, touching off some showers as it crosses the area. We could get some of those showers in the area by late morning/early afternoon, and we could even see some thunderstorms in the afternoon as those spokes of energy are enhance by the sun working the atmosphere. Highs today will be in the upper 50’s to low 60’s with a stiff WSW flow.

We clear out overnight and tomorrow, and repeat this process of rain, sun, wind. It’ll be a breezy one tomorrow with sunshine, and cool temps again as we barely touch 60 (if that).

Winds calm down Wednesday, and westerlies will help us creep past 60 and into the low 60’s.

The narrative begins to change on Thursday when more seasonable air starts to creep in. We’ll have relatively sunny skies, light winds, and highs in the 65-70 degree range.

Warmer air is fully in place on Friday, and it may even be a bit humid out there. A frontal boundary may touch off a few showers, but way into the 70’s we go, and may even push to or slightly beyond 80 depending on how much sunshine we get.

Things will dry out Saturday, but a light NW flow will help keep the mild air in. We could be looking at the nicest day of this block if the forecast holds, with sunny skies, low humidity, and mid to upper 70’s as highs.

Sunday could be another transition day with warmer and more humid air trying to fight back. If we find ourselves along the boundary, look for more clouds than sun, the slight chance of showers, and low 70’s.

Overall, we’re changing things up a bit. Same fast-moving, semi-zonal (west to east) pattern, but pushing a tad further north. This will allow much warmer air to make its presence felt, and if things hold, we could see some 80’s next week. The cooler air tries to fight back towards the last week of May, but that remains to be seen if it pans out. Typically this time of year, once the area gets into more prolonged milder/warmer air, it becomes difficult for the cool air to stick around long, even if it does pay a visit.
