NYC Very Cold Air Approaching Freezing Rain Interior Issues

Good morning everyone. Freezing rain has entered the picture for interior parts of PA and NY, and it’ll be an issue through the morning and till around noon. NW NJ may get in on some of the action, but for the most part things subside for the 2nd part of the day. The big story for the NYC Metro Area will be the very cold temps on Tuesday and a couple of frigid nights strung together.

Freezing rain is going up and over the NYC/Long Island area as most of the moisture is to our north and west. Eventually, that moisture will make it into the area, but it’ll be in the form of a cold rain as highs reach the near 40/low 40 range this afternoon. It’ll be gusty as well, especially as that front approaches; with winds gusting in the 25-30mph realm.

We go cold and breezy tomorrow with stiff northwesterlies, sunshine, and highs in the upper 20’s to near 30. Lows overnight will dip into the low to mid teens.

WEATHER RADAR

We have a hard time recovering on Tuesday as the core of the cold air settles over us. We’ll have highs in the upper teens, lows a frigid upper single digits to low teens.

Things modify fairly quickly with upper 20’s to low 30’s returning on Wednesday with more dry conditions and sunshine; and we should take this into the rest of the week.

Right now we have nothing big on the immediate horizon, but we’re watching a feature for late Friday/Saturday in the form of a coastal storm. As of now, models run a very strong low well offshore and into extreme NE New England/Nova Scotia, but I’m watching it nonetheless because it’s within the margin or error.
