NYC WEATHER REMAINS ACTIVE TURNS COLDER

Good morning everyone. The very slight chance of very light snow remains in the area for overnight tonight, but the big story to me is how our cold shots of air will be much colder than what we’ve seen for most of this season so far; while remaining active, so things at some point could get interesting.

EASTERN SATELLITE

The familiar icy veil of high clouds begins to creep in today well ahead of our monster system (not for us) out west. Highs today will be in the upper 20’s to low 30’s.

I continue to think that dry air completely wins out very quickly or completely, keeping most of the action to our south. However, we’ll be watching the radar closely as overrunning moisture is sometimes tricky and there’s still a very slight chance of a few flakes in the area. If we see anything at all, I think all we see is a dusting to a coating at best. Obviously, cold air is not the issue on this one; dry air and lack of robust development offshore are the main factors here.

Any light flakes that do occur, will be gone quickly and early tomorrow AM. We’ll start off cloudy, then commence some partial clearing; highs in the upper 20’s to low 30’s.

On Monday, seasonably cold air sticks around for some low to mid 30’s and some sun, then we modify into the mid/upper 30’s to near 40 range for the rest of the week.

For next weekend, we’ll be watching another system very closely as it represents the next shot of very cold air. It’s too early to go into exact details as you can see what happened this weekend when certain outlets try and look into the future before current systems pass; but we’ll be watching regardless because it could be a piece-meal/two-part deal here.

Sometimes when we get piece-meal or two part deal when colder air is moving in, we could get a little surprise as things pull out. It’s way too early in the game though, although an umbrella at minimum is a good bet for part of next weekend.

In the long range yesterday, I discussed very cold shots of air moving through. This continues to be the case while our active pattern continues. Our storm paths also continue to shift between what we’ve had all season so far, to a more southerly route. You have to think to yourself that at some point, this will equate to some wintry precip, but we’ll have to take each system one at a time.
