SNOW SLEET RAIN MARCH TOWARDS NYC METRO AREA

SNOW SLEET RAIN MARCH TOWARDS NYC METRO AREA

Good morning folks. You’re waking up the realization that this early taste of winter is actually real and going to happen. A cheap thrill as they may say, but definitely not a cheap storm as a whole; as it’ll bring a wide variety of problems.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Look for clouds to lower and thicken quickly this morning, with precip in most places starting as sleet and snow with temps cold enough to support it. Yesterday’s snow map remain generally the same, except maybe the extreme east end of Long Island may not see the ground briefly whitened. The jury  is still out on that though as this system  has the potential to bring a slight upside or a slight downside. This is because when your dealing with trying to predict the depart of shallow layers of both warm air and cold air, things can be a little tricky.

REGIONAL RADAR

Expect any wintry mix to continue into tonight, with cold and raw conditions, then turn into a plain cold rain as the night wears on. Today’s highs of mid 30’s will rise into the low 40’s before sunrise, easily erasing any evidence that something wintry happened in the NYC area.

However, parts of upstate and points well north and west, will see their first true snow event; where interior sections have winter storm warnings posted.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Aside from the wintry mix, wind will be an issue as well. We could see wind gusts to 40+ in the NYC area and interior parts of Long Island. Meanwhile, the immediate shore may experience 50+ at times. That strong maritime fetch will also cause issues with coastal flooding in your typical spots of Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Rain is long gone by tomorrow morning, but relatively cold temps in the low to mid 40’s and blustery conditions will remain for the start of the weekend. Then we’ll increase clouds on Sunday for our next approaching system that could give us another light wintry mix to ring in the week……..
