TD14 HURRICANE MICHAEL POTENTIAL NYC REMNANT ROLE
Good morning everyone. Warmer air has entered the New York City area, but we have some fog and low clouds to deal with before the sun burns some of it off. Meanwhile, TD14 has formed by the Yucatan and must be closely watched as it’ll be a threat to the Gulf coastlines of Florida to Mississippi.
For today, the sun will eventually win the fog and low cloud battle, but only enough to get some peeks in. Expect relatively humid conditions and highs 75-80 for the area. Overnight, clouds lower and thicken again as maritime air sneaks back in just in time for your Columbus Day tomorrow. We’ll have the slight chance of a shower and highs only in the mid to upper 60’s.
Clouds remain overnight tomorrow with warmer air making a comeback. This time, the returning warm front will give us the slight chance of showers. Warm air sticks around for a couple of days, and we’ll see the 75-80 realm both Tuesday and Wednesday. For Thursday, we remain warm, but start keeping an eye on a cold front sweeping through, plus remnants of what will be Michael possibly getting brought up here.
Regardless of whether Michael enhances our rain or slips to our south, it’ll help bring back the pattern we were supposed to have before the Pacific tropical activity ruined it. Look for much cooler weather to head in, with possibly below normal readings during the cool push.
WESTERN ATLANTIC SATELLITE
As far as TD14 and what will be Michael, things are developing very fast. We have a pretty good bead on what’s going on and where it may go, and that direction is into the Gulf; threatening the Mississippi to Florida coast, specifically the panhandle of Florida as of now.
It also has the potential to become a hurricane before landfall, maybe even a decent-size one strength-wise if development is quick. Once it makes landfall, whether as a Tropical Storm or Hurricane, Michael’s remnants will race inland, giving parts of the southeast heavy rain it doesn’t need. The only saving grace will be that he will be on the move and no stalling is expected.
After Michael douses the south, it’ll make its way up to or close to the NYC area. As I stated above, even without a “direct” hit from the rainy, breezy remnants, Michael will help us return to sanity pattern-wise for the Northeast.
Stay tuned as we watch it all.
