Textbook NYC Summer Day With Scattered Severe Storms Possible
Good morning everyone. For those enjoying our first bout of summer weather, we’ll add the chance of scattered storms into the mix in order to complete the flavor of what summer is in NYC. Our long range also continues to hold steady, with areas of relief mixed in between 3-5 day stretches of very warm/humid conditions.
SATELLITE
As we speak, an area of storms marches across western NY and will slowly drift into parts of the Poconos; while scattered showers and weaker storms move across parts of New England. For this reason, we have clouds in the area mixed in with the haze.
Yesterday, I spoke of watching any development this afternoon to see if our scattered storms can form 1 organized line. It’s quite possible that this morning’s storms could rob the atmosphere a bit of that extra energy needed to pull that off. We shall see though and continue to watch the radar closely.
Look for sun and clouds today, humid conditions, and highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. Any thunderstorms we may get, should start working into the area between 4-8pm. Even if they don’t organize into a line, many cells could reach severe limits, with strong winds, frequent lightning, and hail.
REGIONAL RADAR
For your Sunday, we’ll still have some instability in the area, but the air will be drying out quickly. We’ll have the slight chance of a shower or storm with the sunshine working the atmosphere, but most of the action should be focused on interior parts of the Northeast. We’ll have mid 80’s and a breezy day with winds gusts 25-30mph possible at times.
On Monday, we increase the sunshine even more, dial back the wind a bit, and we’ll go for mid 80’s again. It’ll be dry, seasonable, and relatively comfortable.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
For the remainder of next week, we bring back the very warm/hot weather and slowly dial up the humidity. Upper 80’s to low 90’s are possible Tuesday and Wednesday, then we lower the temps a bit for July 4th, but increase the humidity. Look for the chance of a thunderstorm Thursday, onward into the weekend.
