Tropical Storm Elsa Prompts Warnings For Long Island
Good morning everyone. Tropical Storm Elsa is on the move now fairly quickly, and should be paying a visit late overnight into tomorrow morning. Official warnings are up for most of Long Island, but NYC should see some influential weather as well as she passes just to the east.
SATELLITE
We’ll have clouds and sun today with humid conditions and upper 80’s to near 90. As moisture increases thanks to our approaching front and Elsa to our southwest, expect the chance of passing showers and strong storms as the day wears on.
WEATHER RADAR
Overnight, that moisture will increase even more and showers and storms will become more numerous. Elsa is expected to make her official pass early tomorrow morning. Look for gusty heavy showers and storms for the NYC area, and Long Island should have a heavier-duty version of that.
For Nassau on east to the Forks, look for Tropical Storm force gusts of wind, heavier rain squalls, and more rumbles of thunder. With the leaves on the trees, you can expect some downed trees as those leaves act as a sail. The best chance to see the most damage will be eastern Suffolk. We also have the chance of brief weak tornadoes as Elsa’s heaviest bands move through.
Elsa is long gone by late morning and we should see some partial clearing and mid 80’s. The cold front will not have passed yet, so we could see some scattered PM storms.
Saturday is looking beautiful, with seasonal mid 80’s and clouds & sunshine. Clouds will increase again on Sunday, with the chance of a few showers and low 80’s for highs.
