Tropical Update Tropical Storm Ian

Good evening everyone. We continue to watch the progress of Tropical Storm Ian and the direct/indirect impact it’ll have somewhere in between Louisiana to Florida, and possibly the Southeast Atlantic Coast. We have a long way to go on this as far as dialing in the path, but we pretty much know this is a done deal as far as direct hit somewhere in the south.

We have a pleasant end to the day today, then we will enter a milder and more humid flow tomorrow. Clouds will increase with our first spoke of two in terms of a reinforcing shot of cooler/drier air. Look for the chance of some late scattered showers tomorrow, highs a mild and humid mid 70’s.

We’ll hold onto mid 70’s on Monday with another slight chance of afternoon showers, then the cooler air heads in.

WEATHER RADAR

It won’t be dramatically cooler Tuesday, but we will be much drier with low 70’s for a pleasant day. We will slowly sink down, with more sunshine and near 70 temps Wednesday and Thursday; then we will watch for possibly increasing clouds Friday as Ian’s cloud shield spreads northward.

As we speak, Ian is well south of Jamaica and chugging west at approx 16-17mph. With winds at minimal tropical storm strength, he is expected to strengthen once slowing down for a more NNW turn. Ian before or after emerging from Cuba, is expected to reach major hurricane status, and the path is still unknown at this time. We will continue to stop at the point of Cuba until things become more clear, but it is expected to directly or indirectly impact the W coast of FL and the FL Keys some time Tue/Wed, with winds possibly picking up Monday eve/night.

For the moment, the GFS has it taking a route towards the Panhandle of FL, Alabama, and Mississippi; while the Euro has it hugging the West coast of FL. This is why the entire Southeast and Central/Eastern Gulf coast needs to be on alert. The time to prepare is now, especially due to supply shortages.
