Vigorous Low Pressure System Impacts NYC Metro Area

Good afternoon everyone. A vigorous wave of low pressure is swinging through the Northeast, bringing with it severe weather, heavy rain, and the risk of more flash flooding. For the moment, things are quiet in the NYC, but things are set to change as we get into the evening and overnight hours.

Severe weather and even a few tornado warnings, are impacting areas west of NYC; specifically northwest New Jersey. That energy is expected to go to the north of NYC, but we expect these spokes of energy to redevelop to the south and southwest; eventually making it into the area and Long Island. The most opportune window at the moment, looks to be between 8pm and 3am from west to east. Look for heavy rain and thunderstorms developing, with locally severe conditions possible. In areas that see prolonged torrential rain and/or already had flooding last week, look for the increased risk of flash flooding.

WEATHER RADAR

For tomorrow, look for a less concentrated version of today; with the risk of scattered heavy showers and storms. It’ll be a juicy one, with highs a humid near 80. We do it again on Thursday with cooler air aloft and the risk of popcorn showers and storms. Our storms tomorrow and Thursday, although widely scattered, could contain hail and locally damaging winds.

Friday looks to be the first completely dry day, with sunshine and low 80’s.
