WEATHER CHANGES NYC AHEAD
WEATHER CHANGES NYC AHEAD – Good afternoon everyone. There are big changes underway for the NYC area. The large storm responsible for the blizzard in the upper-midwest yesterday is moving well north of the area. However, a cold front associated with the low pressure system is draped southward along western New York State and Pennsylvania. Ahead of this front is warm air, giving us one more day of unseasonably warm temps in the mid 60’s, slightly cooler at the immediate shore.
Clouds will increase as we go into the late afternoon and evening, with showers moving in between 9pm and 11pm, west to east. Most of the energy will go to the north of us, so don’t expect a complete rainout late tonight, just a quick shot at some steady rain. As the front passes, temperatures will drop and winds will switch from the southwest to west, increasing to 15 to 25mph and gusts to 35mph – low in the low 40’s tonight.
Tomorrow, the low pressure system associated with the front which will have passed by, will drift near the Gulf of Maine, then drift back to the North/Northwest. This will continue and slightly increase the gusty winds (40-45mph) and help usher in seasonably cold temperatures from Canada. Several spokes of energy will move around the low pressure and transit the area, setting off some scattered showers tomorrow afternoon, then scattered snow showers possible tomorrow evening and into the night. Highs tomorrow will only make it to the mid to upper 40’s. Don’t be surprised if you see some flakes in the air and the thermometer is telling you its 40-45 degrees. This is a powerful low with a lot of cold air aloft. a few isolated areas could see a trace of snow on cold surfaces (tree branches, grass) depending on where the bands of precipitation set up.
For Thanksgiving, we are keeping an eye on the possible development of a quick moving coastal storm. Low pressure will again move into the upper regions of Northeast, possibly transferring it’s energy to the coast. The models have been going back and forth on whether it develops close to the coast or further off of Long Island. Where the low pressure’s genesis occurs will be crucial to our forecast. As of now, I’m calling for cloudy and windy Thursday with a chance of showers, clearing Friday, and a cool and breezy holiday weekend. Stay tuned for more.
WEATHER CHANGES NYC AHEAD – The system approaching us is starting to slowly kick out the stalled low pressure system off of the east coast.
WEATHER CHANGES NYC AHEAD – Radar is picking up showers associated with the cold front transiting western NYS and PA.
Local radar is quiet for now.
