ANOTHER COLD BREEZY NYC DAY ACTIVE AHEAD
ANOTHER COLD BREEZY NYC DAY ACTIVE AHEAD – Happy Sunday everyone and a cold one it is! We’ll have one more cold and breezy day, and a frigid night, before things turn around temporarily. This pattern emerging has been on our radar for several weeks now; with Old Man Winter angrier than I am and he want’s a knockout before we put him to bed for 8 months. After a clear night, clouds will increase tomorrow but so will the temperatures thankfully, highs 45-50 in most areas.
As we transition to the warmer sector of a system for Tuesday, there will be a slight chance of showers all day, highs 55-60, but we may crack 60 if we can squeeze out some more sun. The way I see it for Tuesday night, most of the energy will go to the north of us and the frontal boundary will be stretched too thin to cause any major havoc thunderstorm-wise; so expect a period of steady rain as the system passes, with maybe some heavier showers mixed in overnight, but nothing severe in nature. On Wednesday, it takes a little time for the energy to clear out, so some widely scattered AM showers will give way to partial clearing and highs 55-60 once again, closer to 60 or just above it if the sun comes out earlier.
Wednesday night, colder air begins to filter back in, possibly touching off some flurries overnight as the reinforcing shot comes through, lows back into the low to mid 30’s. That threat will remain on Thursday, with highs in the low to mid 40’s.

On Friday, another low pressure system approaches the area. We’ll have to see how much cold air works its way in and the exact timing of everything, but the potential is there for possibly a rain/snow mix or a snow changing to rain scenario on the onset of precipitation. Realistically, we have to wait for Tuesday/Wednesday’s system to pass, before we see how this scenario is going to unfold. More importantly, another system behind it is waiting in the wings to move in. This one has the potential to be a little bit more powerful. Whether this translates to rain, snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain remains to be seen, but the pattern is definitely ramping up and becoming more active as winter is taking it’s final swings.
Behind the system that will effect our Weekend’s weather, is yet another system. However, this one looks as if it’ll take a familiar track we’ve had all season, then the jet stream looks to become slightly more “zonal”. A zonal jet stream usually translates into faster moving, yet weaker systems, and more steady temperatures as March may go out as a seasonably cool lamb.
