Another Mild NYC Day Today

Another Mild NYC Day Today

Good morning everyone. We have yet a fairly nice today today in the NYC region. Sunny skies and a light breeze fills the air today. Seasonably mild air is ahead of a reinforcing shot of cool air that’ll drop us slightly below average for this time of year. In the long range, mid-October may be a warm one, but it all hangs on system tracks and where high pressure sets up.

Expect sunny skies to continue today, with highs slightly above average, but nothing outrageous. We like to call it “seasonably mild” since average highs in NYC this time of year fall in the upper 60 to near 70 range. Today we’ll be in the mid 70’s with a light breeze.

REGIONAL RADAR

Some scattered morning showers may pay a visit tomorrow as cooler air heads in. We’ll go from slightly above average to slightly below average since we don’t get out of the mid 60’s tomorrow. Expect partial clearing and breezy conditions tomorrow afternoon.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Sunshine, mid 60’s, and dry weather dominate our weekend, but we may see some increasing clouds with the next system arriving Monday.

As of now, Monday’s system looks very weak to me. An upper air disturbance will try and link up with low pressure off the coast. At minimum, it’ll bring a cloudy day with the slight chance of some showers. An ENE breeze will help keep things feeling damp, and we’ll have highs in the mid 60’s. At worst, we have some extra shower activity hanging around and hang in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

We’ll keep an eye out on that, but there’s nothing major in either direction, just a slight forecast adjustment if need be.

As stated at the top, we could potentially have some unseasonably warm weather come some time in mid October, but a lot has to happen for it to unfold. A ridge will try and form in the Midwest, then drift our way. Will high pressure be strong enough to hold the ridge? Will it placed in the right area to give us an extended SW flow? or further north with a SE flow. If the ridge isn’t strong enough or the placement of high pressure is slightly too far north, it could hold the temps down in the 60’s/low 70’s. If placed just right, we could get a few days of temps ranging from the mid 70’s to low 80’s mid month.

Stayed tuned and we will watch it all for you.
