Beautiful Mild NYC Today Weekend Split Ahead

Beautiful Mild NYC Today Weekend Split Ahead

Good morning everyone. I’m back and so is the mild weather temporarily. We find ourselves today in the quiet zone, with one system well gone and out of the picture, and another that’ll begin to gather for Sunday’s forecast. Things were questionable for our weekend and the 2 systems involved didn’t materialize in a way that would ruin both Saturday & Sunday, but there will be enough with our southern branch to pretty much ruin Sunday.

We’ll start off first with the good news and the sunshine. Look for a beautiful day today with light winds, full sunshine, and mild temps. Highs today will be in the upper 60’s to near 70 in most spots.

Tomorrow, we repeat the sunshine and light winds but maybe not quite as mild. 70 might be a stretch tomorrow, but mid to upper 60’s will be an easy bet.

For our weekend, vigorous low pressure will emerge from the Southwest and head northeast. While we see these types of systems during the winter, it’s fairly uncommon for this time of year. Our systems that may have merged for the weekend, did not time out “perfectly” for the area this time around.

The reason why our southern system is heading northeast so soon, is because the other system is hanging back in the Absaroka’s of Montana; lifting everything ahead of it. This will give us a pause on Saturday, with a fairly nice day before clouds increase late. lt’ll be dry but cooler than Friday, with highs in the low to mid 60’s.

Sunday is a different story as that big system is off to our west. A warm front/cold combo will head our way, with the majority of the energy heading north and west of us. However, we could see some rain from the warm front, then a break in the action before that cold font swings through. We’ll have to wait and see if any waves form along the cold front to enhance the precipitation or not. At a minimum, expect a line of gusty heavy showers and a few rumbles of thunder to pass through.

It’ll also be breezy/windy ahead of that cold front, but we’ll be in the mild sector of this system. Even with cloudy skies, mid to upper 60’s are possible with muggy conditions.

To start next week, we clear out for a nice Monday with clearing skies and temps still slightly above average. This time of year, we should be around 60, so mid 60’s are mild but nothing extreme or unheard of.

Cooler and colder weather still lurks for Halloween as we wait to see what our mid-week system does. I still have a few questions as to how cold this air really is and how long it lasts. One thing I can answer is that I don’t think it lasts very long before modifying, and I believe our nights will be the big story in terms of the colder air.

For now, look for upper 40’s to near 50 for Halloween and next Friday, then maybe modifying by Saturday already with 50-55 degree temps. Nighttime is where the action will be as we could dip into the 20’s and 30’s with our first frost and freeze of the season.
