NYC Halloween Looking Unseasonably Cool Windy

NYC Halloween Looking Unseasonably Cool Windy

Good morning everyone. After today’s rain we have a pretty quiet week ahead with nothing extreme temp-wise or rain (if any rain at all). The big story to me is something I’ve been discussing for a couple of weeks now, and it’s coming at or near Halloween in order to give us the coldest air of the season thus far.

Clouds have entered the picture today, and a cold/warm front combo will give us a slight chance of some morning sprinkles first; then a chance of some steadier rain later in the afternoon, onward. Most of the energy is going north, and I think any anticipated waves along the front fail to materialize. That translates to a general chance of rain and nothing enhanced for our area. Highs today will be in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Tomorrow we clear things out and introduce full sunshine as the day progresses. Expect a steady breeze out of the WNW 10-15mph and highs in the mid 60’s.

Mid 60’s, sunshine, and dry conditions actually dominate the entire rest of the week and into the weekend. We’ll cool off slightly on Saturday as two systems try and gather over our area. Whether they do or don’t is still up in the air. At minimum, we’ll see increasing clouds and more clouds than sun as Saturday goes on, with low 60’s as highs.

We could see a few showers on Sunday, and we’re looking at upper 50’s to low 60’s as of now. This may all change depending on what our 2 systems want to do and a steadier rain is quite possible.

As I said yesterday, the one constant remains Halloween-time. Regardless of what our weekend system wants to do, a reinforcing system behind it between next Tuesday and Wednesday will help usher in some unseasonably cool and cold air.

For the moment, Halloween may not get past 45 – 50 in the NYC area with windy conditions; and it could be quite colder at night. 20’s and 30’s could dot the area at night even down in NYC, giving areas their first freeze or frost. That cool to cold air wants to hang on for several days, with highs in the 45-50 realm possibly next Wednesday through Saturday or Thursday through Sunday.

Average highs for NYC at the end of October/beginning of November are around the 60 mark, so this would be a pretty good blast of cool air, even if we achieve 50. If we don’t break the 40’s for Halloween, it’s a rare moment and doesn’t happen very often.
