Big Snows For New England Gloomy NYC
03/30/24 11:34am ET
Good late morning everyone. We have a beautiful but breezy weekend in the Northeast as we watch our next system emerge from the Rockies and head east. As it does, it’ll bring the risk of scattered severe weather across parts of the Midwest and Central states, then rain up and down the East Coast. We’ll watch for the brief chance of some heavy thunderstorms in the Southeast, but the big story remains what will happen up in New England.
Our timeline remains late tomorrow through Thursday from west to east on all of this, and we’ll watch closely for redevelopment of low pressure near or off of the New England coast some time on Wednesday. If this does unfold and low pressure is strong enough to pull down cold enough air, we could be looking at historic snowfalls for parts of interior New England; where 18-24″+ of snowfall will be possible. Does it happen this big in April? Sure, but it’s very rare and would be one for the record books. The last time we saw anything this big possible for early April in New England, was back in 1997.
We’ll continue to watch the genesis of this system, and call out the severe weather as or if it pops up in the Midwest, Central states, and Southeast. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for sunshine, seasonal temps, and a stiff breeze today. Highs will be near 60 both today and tomorrow, but winds will settle down tomorrow.
WEATHER RADAR
Clouds roll in on Monday with PM showers and drizzle possible. Highs will be a damp, chilly, and raw mid to upper 40’s. Showers will come in out out of the area in phases, with more showery conditions Tuesday. Things remain raw with more 40’s.
40’s continue on Wednesday, with steadier rain, heavy at times and an increasing wind as low pressure gets going off of New England. Overnight will be chilly with a cold rain and lows in the 30’s. I wouldn’t count out a wet snowflake or two mixed in, but expect no accumulation of snow or ice.
Rain comes to an end on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and windy 40’s.
Sunshine returns on Friday with a stiff breeze and highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s.
