BROAD SYSTEM HEADING TOWARDS NYC

BROAD SYSTEM HEADING TOWARDS NYC – Good afternoon everyone! We’ll dive right into the forecast today as it’s rather simple and something we’ve grown accustomed to this winter so far. This evening, a long-reaching warm front will be approaching from the south and west, giving us increasing clouds and steady temps overnight; lows in the upper 30’s. As moisture moves into the area, some parts well north and west could see some light freezing rain, sleet, and snow before sunrise and before changing to all rain. As for New York City, this will be a rain event, with light rain possible a few hours before sunrise, becoming steadier as the day goes on; highs in themed 40’s. Rain and fog will be with us on and off all night tomorrow night, with temps remaining steady for a second night in a row.

On Wednesday, things clear out partially after some morning rain, with highs in the upper 40’s to near 50. Beyond Wednesday, we’ll see sun and clouds, with a slight chance of some light rain overnight on Friday. Highs Thursday through Sunday will be in the upper 40’s to near 50. we have to wait and see how things clear out and how much this system gets hung up as others in the past few weeks. If we get more sun, we can break 50; if it remains more on the cloudy side, we remain in the upper 40’s. Next Monday, we keep an eye on a rather identical system, giving us a threat of rain again.

As I’ve said in previous updates in the past few days, things remain locked in an unseasonably mild pattern for the next 10 days or so, but changes are on the horizon. The issue at this point is, how long does this change last at the end of January/beginning of February and will we snap back into the pattern we’ve been seeing. The most important thing at this point is that a large part of this Nation, especially the west coast which was on the brink of disaster, is getting much needed rain and reservoirs are being filled.
