Coating of Snow Possible Across NYC Area

02/02/25 11:54am EST

Good late morning everyone. Our next weak system is about to enter the Northeast in the form of some light to moderate snows for interior sections later today and overnight tonight. It’ll be a quick hit, but southeast New York, northeast Pennsylvania, and northwest New Jersey could see 1-2″ out of this; especially across higher elevations of the Poconos.

While most of the energy skips north of the New York City area, we could still see a dusting to a coating out of this before mixing with rain and tapering off. Overall though, an active pattern remains and we could see a few more opportunities for snow and/or snow changing to rain across the Tri-State area over the next week or two.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

SATELLITE

Clouds will be on the increase today and eventually we’ll see some scattered light snow in the area. The flakes will be wet in fashion, but dropping temperatures overnight could help it stick for a bit. Warmer air invades the mid-layers, and would should see snow mix with rain before coming to an end late overnight/very early tomorrow morning. Look for a dusting to a coating possible, higher amounts N&W of NYC.

WEATHER RADAR

Look for a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow with highs 45-50, then PM sun on Tuesday with more mid to upper 40’s.

Clouds increase again on Wednesday for a similar setup compared to later today, but this one will have more moisture to it. Look for the chance of some wet snow late Wednesday, then mixing with and changing to rain late overnight into Thursday. This one could have a little extra “bump” in terms of accumulating onset snows before rain washes it away. Sun returns on Friday with low 40’s likely.
