NYC Snow Possible Wednesday Night
02/02/25 8:56am EST
Good morning everyone. We have another area of energy impacting the West Coast in the form of heavy rain, heavy mountain snow, and strong winds as another active period builds.
We’re running the entire gamut across parts of central and northern California with heavy rain and thunderstorms coming ashore in the San Francisco area and into the Valley. As for mountain snows, the Cascades will see 1-3ft of snow, with locally higher amounts to 4ft. Meanwhile, we have Storm Warnings posted by the National Weather Service for near-shore areas by Monterey, southward. Winds may exceed 50mph and we can expect waves 8-11ft until things begin to settle down later tonight.
This is all relevant to the Northeast and New York City area, because this system will stretch out and trek across a big area of real estate fairly quickly. By late night tomorrow night, light to moderate snow will break out as cold air is still trapped in New York, Pennsylvania, and parts of New Jersey. We’ll eventually change over to a wintry mix, then a cold rain as relatively warmer air wins out in the mid-layers of the atmosphere.
Across parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, sleet and freezing rain could cause some serious travel hazards late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. While snow should be kept to a minimum 1-2″, we could see a layer of ice during the changeover process. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for freezing rain expected, especially across western and central Pennsylvania.
Here’s your local NYC Metro forecast –

As the sun rises on Thursday, snow will mix with sleet and rain, then eventually change to all rain. It’ll be. nasty and raw day with highs near 40. For the NYC area, we could see a coating – 2″ of snow & sleet before the changeover.
Sunshine rules on Friday with highs in the mid 40’s for a relatively pleasant day in early February.
