Cold Air On The Move For NYC But Doesn’t Stick Around

Cold Air On The Move For NYC But Doesn’t Stick Around

Good morning everyone. Our system that gave us some nice rain late overnight is starting to depart the area as colder air rushes in. Aside from today, we have about 3 days to contend with it, then it’s gone with milder air heading in ahead of our next rainmaker. The winter season is coming to an end for us, and the hopes of getting anything to add to our paltry snow numbers, are fading fast.

Expect clearing skies today with low pressure exiting the Northeast. Your highs today have already happened, and we should be into windy conditions and 30’s by sunset. Look for lows in the 20’s overnight, and we don’t recover much tomorrow with winds continuing with highs near 40 at best.

The weekend is looking cold to start March, and we’ve been been expecting this for the past few weeks. The wind sticks around for Saturday as we end February on a blustery note and highs in the mid to upper 30’s.

Wind should calm down Sunday, but we start March in the 30’s as well. However, overnight Sunday we drop only into the low 30’s, signaling change in the airmass.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Look for AM sun on Monday, then increasing clouds with another broad system heading our way. We’ll pop back into the mid to upper 40’s, then some light rain may move in overnight Monday.

We’ll have our staple on and off rain next Tuesday and Wednesday. If the timing works out on the front, Wednesday could give us 55-60 degree temps.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Overall, the snow-hostile pattern continues and we and are slowly and statistically being eliminated from the snow game. Yes, the past few seasons gave us some late March/early April action, but those winters were much colder and had more ingredients to work with.

This season, we have a major lack of ingredients, including an ocean that is above average temp-wise, making it harder for anything to happen unless it was 100% perfectly placed and timed.

Combine spring pushing hard in the Midwest by mid-March, and it’s essentially game over for snow lovers.
