Compact Hurricane Dorian Continues Florida Trek

Compact Hurricane Dorian Continues Florida Trek

Good morning everyone. Hurricane Dorian held its strength last night while encountering some unfriendly atmosphere and remains on path towards Florida and the Southeast U.S. For us up here, our Labor Day Weekend forecast is holding strong, but we could also talk about the possibility of some fringe remnants of Dorian down the line.

Yesterday’s clouds and rain associated with our weak cold front and Tropical Storm Erin, are long gone and we have a beautiful, warm, and dry day ahead. Expect low to mid 80’s with comfortable dew points.

Tomorrow we’ll go for a repeat, but notch up the warmth a little bit. Expect widespread mid 80’s, and maybe a few upper 80’s sprinkled in for good measure. Sunny skies and relatively comfortable humidity continue.

REGIONAL RADAR

Your holiday weekend is holding strong, with sunny skies and low 80’s on Saturday; then increasing clouds and cooler temps as we get into a more maritime flow. We’ll drop into the upper 70’s to near 80 Sunday, but remain dry throughout.

Upper 70 to near 80 temps remain for Monday, but we could see a few scattered showers in the area. A beach day it is not, but I wouldn’t cancel outdoor plans otherwise, at least not yet.

In the long range, we’ll get back into the sunnier and warmer weather to start the week, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on Dorian’s remnants to see if they run up the coast on an inland path or get compressed back out to sea via the Carolinas/Virginia.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

Hurricane Dorian continues on its path towards Florida and the Southeast. The reason why you didn’t see any rapid intensification overnight, is because it is in semi-hostile atmosphere right now for it. This is why Dorian remains compact and steady at the moment.

Eventually though, it’ll move into more favorable air and we should start to see it spooling up and maybe take up more real estate. As of now and given its new route compared to 48 hrs ago, a Category 3+ is certainly possible for someone. Miami to Charleston, SC continue to watch, and we’ll have to see if it trends north, slams direct, or stalls out just off the coast or just inland.

We have a long way to go on this, so again, use this time to prepare and go over your supplies.
