EARLY NYC FALL ARRIVES EARLY SUMMER RETURNS LATE WEEK – Good morning everyone! For those out early this morning, I hope you brought your sweatshirts as we went from Florida to Maine in 3 days. Cooler than expected air has spilled in from our neighbor in Canada to give us a cool, breezy day with temps only reaching the low 70’s. This does happen at times in July, but due to the lack of a strong, definitive cold front, I didn’t expect temps to dip as low as they are. Cool air remains for tomorrow, but it’ll slightly modify as northeast winds slowly shift to the southeast, then south overnight. We should see highs 75-80 before our next system begins to approach for Thursday.
On Thursday, a warm front will begin to approach, giving us increasing clouds, increasing humidity, and highs in the low to mid 80’s. A decent, soaking rain is possible Thursday night into Friday morning, but partial clearing should ensue late Friday with temps rebounding into the 80’s again. The weekend is looking very nice, with seasonable temps, and average humidity for this time of years; sunny with highs in the mid 80’s.
Then, we watch for the big heat and humidity to return. If everything goes smoothly, high pressure will move offshore in the Southeast and meander for an extended period of time. If this happens, it will help pump in above average temps and oppressive humidity/dewpoints. As of now, my confidence of this happening is 70% yes, 30% no. If it unfolds in this manner, this will probably end up being the hottest stretch of the 2017 summer.
