First 2019 NYC Heatwave Possible Next Week
Good morning everyone! After yesterday’s damp and “cool” start, we recovered at the end for an epic sunset, as well as signs that we have a hot period ahead. While coming at us in varying intensities, some of this pattern may contain a textbook heatwave if the cards play out correctly.
SATELLITE
First we have our very warm to hot short-range forecast. Today we’re looking sunny, hot, and dry, highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s with low humidity. Tomorrow, we notch up the humidity a little bit, but I don’t think we go oppressive yet. However, it’ll still be hot with highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s again; cooler at the shore with a seabreeze developing.
Thursday and Friday remain looking like back to back very warm and humid days with the chance of an afternoon storm. We do have a better shot at some storms Thursday night as a wave of energy swings by, but it won’t cool us off, just reinforce the airmass. Highs both days in the mid 80’s to near 90 and very humid.
REGIONAL RADAR
Our weekend continues to hold, with sunny and hot conditions. Both days are looking dry precipitation wise, and Sunday being the more humid of the two days. Highs Saturday and Sunday in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.
Next week, we continue that trend, but possibly notch up the heat even more IF this ridge builds that I see trying to get going. What will probably become a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Barry in the Gulf, could hamper or enhance the prospect depending on if it stalls out and fizzles out over land; or if a front catches it and moves it along. If it stalls out in the Gulf States and fizzles out in the stix, prepare for a very hot and humid period possibly next Tuesday to that following Tuesday. If it gets caught up in a front, expect the current summer pattern to continue (sans a heatwave), and a rainy day or two thrown into the mix.
The jury is still out on that, but we are watching very closely. If it pans out, expect to see low 90’s to near 100 degree temps next Tuesday to at a minimum that Sunday (the 21st).
We shall see, so stay tuned.
