FLORENCE DEPARTURE ASSISTS NYC AUTUMN ARRIVAL
Good morning everyone. We have a beautiful day unfolding here in the NYC area, and there is more to come thanks to Florence. Sometimes the jet stream needs a good kick in the ass to get going, and as tragic is Hurricane Florence is/was, she played a big role in getting summer out of here.
EASTERN SATELLITE
We’re on target today for those expected sunny skies, northerly breeze, low humidity, and warm but comfortable day; highs in the upper 70’s to near 80. Cooler air gets drawn in tomorrow as high pressure begins to drift east. We’ll have a light NE wind and highs a seasonal/near seasonal upper 60’s to low 70’s. Friday continues to look warm and more humid with an approaching cold front bringing a reinforcing shot of cooler air. We’ll have upper 70’s to low 80’s across the area, but it’ll feel warmer than that as humidity creeps up.
REGIONAL RADAR
Overnight Friday, our front will pass though with little fanfare, but it’ll help usher in a beautiful and comfortable weekend. Expect sunny skies and a nice breeze on Saturday, highs in the low to mid 70’s. As winds again switch around to the ENE, we’ll dip a little lower Sunday with upper 60’s to low 70’s and low humidity.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Our start to next week continues to look cool, with upper 60’s to low 70’s for a start; then we’ll warm again mid-week next week to start the process for another reinforcing shot of cool air for the last weekend of September.
The gears of fall are turning faster folks, and our seasonal to cool days will start to outnumber our warm days as we move on. Can we still have periods of warm to very warm weather? Absolutely, but they will start becoming the minority. Also, the tropics have calmed down for now, but we will be watching old fronts hung up along the Gulf/East Coast, and old waves in the lower Caribbean for potential development as we move later into the season.
