NYC AUTUMN INVASION GROWING LIKELY
Good morning everyone. While we’re getting a taste of early fall today here in New York City and a bigger one this weekend, an even larger one looms to give September a send-off and to start October. Meanwhile, we have some ups and downs to get through, most of which will give everyone a sample of what they like.
After a cloudy start this morning, we should slowly begin to clear things out. Expect some sun as we go later into the day and highs in the low 70’s, which is just about normal for this time of year. For tomorrow, more clouds than sun will prevent from going into the 80’s, but we’ll still have a warm and humid day. Most areas should see a muggy 75-80 with the slight chance of a storm overnight as that first shot of autumn air is set to move in.
REGIONAL RADAR
Saturday remains looking beautiful, but some remaining upper air energy combined with the sun could spark off a widely scattered thunderstorm. Because of the cold air aloft, any storm that does pop up could contain some small hail. However, most of the action should be contained upstate. We’ll have a nice, light NW breeze and highs in the mid 70’s. On Sunday, the bulk of this cooler airmass moves over us, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60’s to low 70’s.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Upper 60’s to low 70’s and sunny skies continue for Monday, then we introduce more clouds for Tuesday as warmer air tries to move back in later in the week. We could have a shower or two, and one more day of upper 60’s to low 70’s before the shmutz returns briefly.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

Mid-week, an approaching cold front will help boost the warmth and humidity again. It doesn’t look like it lasts very long, but we could have a few days of upper 70’s, MAYBE a few 80 degree hits, but the humidity will make it feel warmer.
The big story to me will be the autumn push following that last gasp of warmth. Next weekend (the last weekend of September), we might be able to eek out one last relatively warm day depending on the timing of that cool airmass; but after that, we’ll be looking at a long term, cool-dominant pattern. Aside from a few slightly above-normal days here and there, from next Sunday onward into early October, it looks as if 60’s will dominate the scene.
Stay tuned as we pinpoint how low we go and for how long.
