FLORENCE REMNANTS PAY NYC VISIT AUTUMN GEARS TURNING QUICKLY

Good morning everyone. Look up into the NYC sky and you’ll see the tropical low to mid-level clouds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Florence. Fear not though as she’s on the move relatively quickly and has been downgraded to a weak tropical depression. Meanwhile, the gears of fall are turning and aside from a few warm hiccups here and there, some refreshing air will start becoming the majority, not the minority.

Expect increasing clouds today, muggy, with highs near 80. No Florence yet, but she’ll make it feel very tropical today, especially along the immediate shore with a Key West-like feel. Most of Florence’s energy will be going to the west and north of us as expected, but she will help enhance our approaching front, as well as maybe some action as her “tail” swings by.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Late tonight/before sunrise tomorrow, the chance of rain will increase. With high dew points and muggy conditions, some of those raindrops could be rather large. Look for rain tomorrow, heavy at times, with a few rumbles of thunder, and highs a muggy 75-80. Aside from the associated approaching front and a few of those thunderstorms being potentially gusty, there will be no wind to speak of associated with the remnants of Florence. Our biggest issue will be no bigger than any other rainy day – minor flooding in poor drainage area as we may see 1-2 inches of rain, possibly higher in areas that see some thundershower action.  There will be NO issues with storm surge, widespread wind damage, or widespread flooding; this is just a rainy day folks.

After that front passes by and gives Florence the boot, we dry out and cool off for a couple of days. Look for a northerly flow starting on Wednesday with things clearing out. We’ll have increasing sunshine, lower humidity, and highs in the mid to upper 70’s. Thursday is looking very early fall-like, with bright sunshine, low humidity, and highs in low to mid 70’s. For Friday, we turn up the juice again with an approaching front and reinforcing shot of fall air. Look for a warm one with low to mid 80’s, but the passage of our front should be uneventful as it’ll move through overnight with the slight chance of a shower or storm. Then some more refreshing air moves in.

Our weekend is looking gorgeous, with increasing sunshine on Saturday, decreasing humidity, and highs in the mid 70’s. Sunday is looking even more refreshing, with bright sunshine and low 70 temps. Monday has the potential to be even cooler, with highs as of now looking in the mid 60’s to near 70 with the slight chance of rain as the leading edge of warmer air moves back in.

In our long range, it looks as if we may squeeze out a few more warm ones mid week of our last week of September. The autumn air wants to fight back hard though and we could see another cool weekend to end September and cool week to start October. We are entering fall-mode my friends, so for those who enjoy 80 degree temps, embrace the few days we have left along the way, because they’re fading fast.

Stay Tuned.
