FRIDAY NYC COLD SHOT LOOKING COLDER – Good morning everyone. Our forecast this week is holding steady in terms of our airmasses. However, a few tweaks need to be made to adjust for the sheer amount of cold air that’ll push in for Friday.
After a sunny morning, the slight chance of rain continues later today on into tonight, with highs in the upper 40’s to near 50. Near 50 temps continue for tomorrow and we should start to break out in some sun. We warm up very slightly into the low 50’s Thursday and then it’s game on.
A quick shot of a November version of arctic air will rush in on Friday. Originally I was thinking 40’s as highs and 20’s as lows, with lower lows, possibly into the teens N&W of NYC and the Pine Barrens of Long Island. The lows remain steady, but at this point, we may not break 40 on Friday. In fact, expect mid to upper 30’s as highs on Friday with breezy conditions.
That’s right, after having May just a week ago, prepare for January. Saturday remains just about as cold, maybe a degree or two warmer, so break out those winter Jackets, hats, and gloves temporarily. We modify a bit on a Sunday with low 50’s and return back to reality.
In the long range, our area is looking much more normal compared to the last two months, but unseasonably cold air might be looking to make a return. We’ll have to wait and see how it transfers out of Canada and if it settles into the Northeast.
