HEAT WAVE TO IMPACT NYC AREA

HEAT WAVE TO IMPACT NYC AREA

06/15/24 9:32am ET

Good morning everyone. As expected, our tropical influx into Florida and eventually along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, will help create a heat dome along the East Coast and into the Northeast. We start off fairly innocuous today and tomorrow, then heat will begin to build Monday onward. By Tuesday, we’re expecting an early & prolonged taste of deep summer with 95-100 degree temps up and down the East Coast; eventually spreading into New York City by Thursday.

We’re also watching for the possibility of severe weather in the Upper Plains sometime between late tomorrow evening and early Monday morning. Look for scattered showers and storms to build into a multi-directional cluster or clusters. These storms will be capable of very large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and tornadoes. Our main focus will be North and South Dakota, plus Minnesota.

As far as the tropics are concerned, we still have some action in South Florida, but it has become lighter and more of the scattered variety. Some flooding risks remain, but not on the level we saw a few days ago. What we will be watching, is tropical moisture streaming into the Louisiana coast, then some scattered gusty tropical showers and storms for the Texas coast over the next few days.

We still have this wave and one more tropical wave several days from now to watch for possible tropical development, so we’re not out of the woods yet with this pattern. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

Look for sunny skies today and comfortable warm temps in the low 80’s. We cool off a bit tomorrow before the heat creeps up, with more sunny skies and highs in the upper 70’s to near 80.

Your workweek starts off sunny and very warm, with highs in the upper 80’s to near 90. We break 90 on Tuesday with sunny skies and more humid conditions. Highs in the low 90’s.

Wednesday and sunny and hot, with low to mid 90’s possible. Our heat wave is in full swing on Thursday and Friday, with oppressive conditions and 95-100 degree temps.

For your weekend, we hold onto 95-100 degree temps for Saturday, and we could see a bonus hot day or days Sunday and Monday depending on if a cold front is able to pass the area or not.
