HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT WEEKEND SPLIT MORE LIKELY
HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT WEEKEND SPLIT MORE LIKELY – Good morning everyone. Clouds have begun to creep across the New York City area well ahead of a warm front/wave of low pressure combo. This will make things interesting overnight, plus we’ve crept back into a more volatile (but seasonable) pattern.
Look for clouds and sun today, more clouds than sun as we move onward. A very light northerly flow will help foster the gnats outdoors, especially along the coastal areas, but we should swing to the south later on and clear out the bugs. Expect highs in the low 80’s.
Overnight, things get interesting as a compact wave of low pressure may blow up just at the right moment when it transits the area. This will equate to the chance of some heavy rain and thunderstorms before dawn. Nothing severe is expected, but they could be your textbook loud and flashy nocturnal storms, with brief, localized flooding in poor drainage areas.
After the slight chance of some morning showers, things clear out nice tomorrow as we re-renter that northerly flow and play the game again waiting for the next warm front. Most areas should see highs in the 80-85 range tomorrow with afternoon bright sunshine.
That warm front wants to kick back towards the area again for Friday, so look for a thin veil of clouds lowering and thickening as the day goes on; plus a stiff easterly flow will help cool things down a bit. Highs will be in the upper 70’s, muggy, and the chance of a shower or storm will be with us from late morning all the way into Friday night.
Our Jekyll and Hyde weekend begins on Saturday as the tropical moisture causing problems down in Texas, combines with a system coming out of the Midwest. This will slowly push our way from the Mississippi Valley, into the Ohio Valley, and then across the Northeast. I maintain that most of the energy will go to our north, but we have a decent shot at some rain and thunderstorms on Saturday. I don’t expect a complete washout, but it’s not going to be a nice day either. Look for highs in the upper 70’s again, cloudy skies, muggy, and periods of heavy/gusty showers and storms. Where those storms set up, we could see some flash flood warnings.
On Sunday, we clear things out early for a decent day compared to Saturday. Expect clouds and sun, highs in the mid to upper 80’s.
