HOT WEATHER BRIEF VISIT LABOR DAY ENCORE POSSIBLE
Good morning everyone. We have a beautiful, seasonably warm day ahead in the New York City area before we begin to turn up the juice for some of the hottest air we’ve had all season. Meanwhile, Labor Day weekend continues to produce some question marks, but overall it looks tolerable.
Sunny skies, relatively comfortable conditions, and low to mid 80’s will be the theme for today before we notch up the humidity tomorrow. Sun continues to dominate tomorrow, with light southerly winds, increasing mugginess as the day wears on, and highs in the mid 80’s.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Sunday is the appetizer for Monday’s main dish as we really turn things up. Expect searing hot sun, light westerlies, humid, and highs 90-95. The heat continues for a total of three days, so look for low to mid 90’s, possibly some upper 90’s, Tuesday and Wednesday before things get turned off abruptly. Looking back at our season, this small block of heat may wind up being our 2nd hottest period compared to the late June/early July heatwave.
REGIONAL RADAR
Late Wednesday night to early Thursday morning, a semi-back door cold front will drape down across the area with little fanfare. This possibility is something we’ve been discussing for more than a week and it looks like it happens a day early. When attempting these super long range hail-Mary forecasts, the initial margin of error could be +/- 1-3 days, so 1 day off in retrospect isn’t bad.
Humidity drops as well as temps. It’ll be a big change from Wednesday, but we still hang out in the normal realm, with highs in the low 80’s Thursday and clouds & sun. Friday looks to be the coolest day of the bunch with the maritime push in full effect. Expect highs in Friday in the 75-80 realm, with parts of eastern Long Island in the low 70’s. Then comes the tricky Labor Day Weekend forecast.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
As of now, the maritime air hangs around Saturday but we’ll slowly modify back into the near 80 to low 80 range. Sunday has the potential to be a bit unsettled IF much warmer air attempts a return. At the moment I don’t see any washouts, especially if most of the energy goes north, but keep that in the back of your mind for now.
If the transition takes place on Sunday, Monday has the potential to be hot and humid one more time; making for a perfect beach day to round-out the end of the season for many.
Stay tuned as we have a lot to get through before Labor Day Weekend. I’d say the most accurate picture in order to start some holiday planning will be mid-week as maritime air can be tricky at times.
