Hurricane Idalia Pounds Florida Nice Weather For NYC Area
Good morning everyone. We continue to watch Hurricane Idalia, which is wreaking havoc along Florida’s west, big bend, and panhandle coastlines. Even though Tampa and Clearwater did not take a direct hit from Hurricane Idalia, I am receiving reports from first responders that both Tampa and Clearwater have sustained major flooding from Idalia’s storm surge. With that knowledge, you can be sure that Cedar Key and other parts up the coast, have taken a tremendous hit.
As Idalia moves inland, to will expand in terms of precip and wind-field. The stationary front protecting northernmost Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, will help steer Idalia along the Southeast coast just inland, then out to sea somewhere in between Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, SC. Tropical storm force winds, plus some hurricane force gusts, will be felt in the strongest of rain bands. We’ll also see copious amounts of rain that’ll touch off flash flooding in low lying areas and areas along rivers & streams. We also have to be on the lookout for brief tornadoes, but they happen so fast, it’ll be hard to give proper warnings.
In the Northeast, you’ll be enjoying a nice day today once our front clears. Clouds will give way to sunshine, and we’ll have a nice rest of the workweek. As stated yesterday, we are watching for the return of some deep summer temps to start off September.
SATELLITE
For Today, we have a band of rain moving through and mid 70’s for the time being. Clouds will give way to some late sunshine, and we’ll see temps in the low to mid 80’s.
Tomorrow is an easy one, with sunshine, dry conditions, and highs in the mid to upper 70’s.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll keep that mojo going on Friday for another sunny day and upper 70’s, then we begin to watch the warmth increase slowly.
Saturday is a fantastic day with more sunshine and highs near 80. Sunday gets a bit warmer with low to mid 80’s for highs.
By next week, we are in the mid to upper 80’s for Monday, then upper 80’s to near 90 on Tuesday. If everything goes “as planned” we could see upper 80’s to low 90’s next Wednesday and Thursday before we begin to look for some relief.
