JOSE FIZZLE OPENS HURRICANE MARIA CLOSE CALL DOOR
JOSE FIZZLE OPENS HURRICANE MARIA CLOSE CALL DOOR – Good morning folks. It looks as if we’re on Maria watch again as Jose failed to remain “strong” enough for one more day to keep the East Coast 100% safe.
Jose acted as a buffer, with strong enough low pressure to keep Hurricane Maria at bay until a front kicked her out. While it still looks as if this front will help protect the Northeast, it’s now possible Maria may do a dip in close enough to affect parts of North Carolina, especially the Outer Banks.
Both the EURO and GFS models agree on this new solution. However, it’s important to remember that we still have some time to go. Plus, when models depict these dips and wobbles, it’s important to approach the idea with caution, while remaining open to the idea for safety’s sake.
Also, these dips and wobbles a lot times become more linear and unfold faster, so it’s important for people on the North Carolina coast to remain vigilant and watch closely. As forecasted, Hurricane Maria was to bring rough surf and rip currents to the East Coast, and that does remain true; except now we may have to start talking about some type of precip event and possibly at minimum, Tropical Storm conditions for the Outer Banks, especially if models either hold this trend, or bring it even closer. Stay tuned as we watch Maria very closely.
Locally, the winds won’t be as light as expected, so that’ll help keep temps “down” a bit. Expect highs in the mid 80’s, with sunny skies and a northerly breeze. Tomorrow, we shoot for near 90 temps and sunny skies.
