Light Snow Likely Across New York City Monday

01/03/25 12:42pm EST

Good afternoon everyone. We continue to watch a progressively colder and snowier winter pattern developing across much of the Lower 48, and that will eventually impact the Northeast & New England. Our first step is cold air locking itself in across the Lower Plains, Central States, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and New England. Now, we begin to watch our first storm of possibly 2 or 3 over the next 7-14 days; and even if they don’t materialize, the pieces will help usher in even colder air.

For us here in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, we’re watching some clouds and scattered flurries enter the picture this afternoon. It’ll be hard to get them to the coast, but New York City and Long Island could see a snow flurry or two. Highs today are where they are and stuck in the upper 30’s at best.

WEATHER RADAR

We have sun & clouds tomorrow, and a seasonably cold day with high in the mid 30’s. Sunday starts off sunny, then increasing clouds late. Highs also in the mid 30’s.

That first storm system will spread moderate to heavy snows from Kansas to Delaware, with the heaviest snows back across Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Over there, 1-2ft of snow may fall. However, we could also see 6-12″+ of snow from Virginia to Maryland and Delaware. Some of that may graze lower Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey as well.

For us here in NYC and Long Island, it’ll be a cold and cloudy day on Monday with highs near the freezing mark. Look for some light snow possible and depending on how far north that precipitation shield gets, we could see some light accumulations as well.

A more important storm is possible next weekend, but we have to get through this one first. Last week our long range models lost it, but now it’s back again in moderate form; especially for the Mid-Atlantic.
