Light Snow Possible for New York City Early Saturday

Light Snow Possible for New York City Early Saturday

02/14/24 9:45am

Good morning everyone. Our snowstorm is long gone, replaced by breezy conditions and a cold day in the Northeast. We are relatively quiet, with no major systems expected to impact large portions of the lower 48 aside from our continued stormy West Coast, and some more heavy rain for Florida this weekend.

We’re expecting a weak disturbance to fly by the Northeast and New England overnight tomorrow into early Friday. This will touch off some light snow showers across interior parts of the Northeast and New England; with a few sprinkles or snow showers possible for the NYC Metro Area and Long Island. Another one will swing by overnight Friday into Saturday. This one looks to have a little more kick to it, and we could see a period of all snow for the Tri-State area and parts of the Mid-Atlantic.

That disturbance will have a southern component to it, and heavy rain & embedded heavy thunderstorms is expected across Florida late Saturday into Sunday. Look for possible flooding in flood-prone areas where the ground is already oversaturated.

Other than that, there’s nothing crazy going on for the moment. Here is your local forecast for the NYC Metro Area –

Look for sunshine and a breeze today as temperatures struggle to break the mid 30’s. Temps in the 20’s overnight will cause everything to re-freeze, make for some icy patches on streets and sidewalks.

WEATHER RADAR

We’ll have AM sun tomorrow, then increasing clouds late ahead of our reinforcing shot of cold air. Highs will be in the near 40 range, then 30-35 overnight. Expect a few scattered sprinkles or snow showers before sunrise.

Sun and a breeze return on Friday with highs in the upper 30’s to near 40; then increasing cloud overnight.

So far for Saturday, we are looking at a period of light snow with highs in the mid to upper 30’s. If snow starts early enough and is able to stick, we could see a light accumulation across the area. As of now, I’m calling for a trace to 2″ on this one. Sunshine returns for Sunday and it’ll be breezy again, with highs in the low to mid 30’s for a cold day.
