Majority Light Snow Scoots South of New York City
02/15/24 – 10:48am
Good morning everyone. Things are relatively quiet across the land aside from more snow and rain out in the West. We have a few small features that we can discuss, but everything remains fairly light until the Gulf Coast gets more flooding rain & heavy storms this weekend.
Our first small disturbance will skip across upper parts of the Great Lake States, the interior Northeast, and into New England. This will touch off some light snow closer to the low pressure system, and some light rain or mix in the southern quadrant. After that, we’ll watch a clipper-like system scoot across the Mid-Atlantic, touching off a brief period of light to moderate snow in the DC area and the Chesapeake region late Friday into early Saturday.
Moisture will lag across the Gulf during this period, eventually spawning another wave of low pressure that’ll bring heavy rain across the Gulf states and into Florida by Sunday. This batch of moisture could contain embedded thunderstorms with isolated severe weather in the form of torrential rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The biggest risk to see some severe weather will be central and south Florida.
Here is your local forecast for the NYC Metro Area –
SATELLITE
Expect AM sun, then increasing clouds late today. Highs should be in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. We have the slight chance of a sprinkle or snow shower tonight. No accumulation is expected.
Tomorrow we have AM clouds, then PM sun, then increasing clouds once again later in the day. It’ll also be a windy one behind our system, with winds gusting 35-40mph possible. Highs in the mid to upper 30’s, possibly 40 if we can get enough sunshine.
WEATHER RADAR
We have the chance of some scattered light snow or flurries late overnight Friday into early Saturday morning. Again, most of that snow will be well-south of the area. If our system does get squirelly and that shield of steadier precip makes it here, look for a trace to 1″ of snow at best. Highs Saturday in the mid to upper 30’s under clearing skies.
Sunday looks sunny and cold with highs in the mid to upper 30’s again.
