Long Range Outlook Shows Continued Active Pattern

03/28/24 8:00am ET

Good morning everyone. Varying intensities of rain is sliding up the East Coast, from northern Florida, to the Carolina Coast, all the up into New England. We’ll watch this system continue to spool up and deepen offshore, then depart New England with a windy and snowy ending in spots.

We’re also looking at the long range forecast, where a larger system will trek across the northern tier, then possibly redevelop in the Gulf of Maine. If this does happen, we’ll first watch for severe weather concerns in the Central States, then shift our eyes to New England as we could see rain changing to heavy snow for an April snowstorm. Our timeline of concern looks to be Sunday through Thursday from west to east.

We’ll also watch what is potentially behind that system in the form of unseasonably chilly/cold air. Areas of the Northeast next Thursday could see a blustery and cold one behind this low pressure system if things unfold a certain way. After things pass and temps modify, it looks like the Northeast and New England catch a dry break for 5-7 days beyond, but a spring ridge will try and form from the lower to upper Midwest. Not only does this equate to very mild to very warm temps, it could also increase the risk of powerful thunderstorms some time in the 2nd week of April.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

Look for rainy and raw conditions today in the 50-55 range. Rain will taper off overnight, then sunshine slowly returns tomorrow under a blustery day in the 50’s.

WEATHER RADAR

Saturday we could see a few sprinkles with clouds and sun. Highs should be in the mid to upper 50’s. Then on Sunday look for a steady breeze and highs near 60.

Clouds increase Monday ahead of that next system, and rain should be heading in by Monday night on into Tuesday through at least Wednesday (again). Highs should be in the 55-60 range throughout.
