Long Range Outlook Shows Mild Air Opportunities
04/04/24 10:07am ET
Good morning everyone. Our powerful Nor’Easter continues to spool up and bring heavy snows and powerful winds to parts of upstate New York and a wide swath of New England. Snowfall is still piling up and when this is over, many spots seeing all snow, will see 8-16″ of it, with 18-24″ in localized spots & higher elevations. The last time we saw snows like this in April, was back in 1997 with our “April Fools” storm. Coastal flooding and winds are also a big story as coastal flood warnings remain in effect for coastal New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. Long Island is the big winner wind-wise, with 68mph wind gusts reported in Bayville and Eaton’s Neck.
We catch a break this weekend, but our active pattern continues without any signs of slowing down till mid to late month. Our next system will already begin to emerge out of the Southwest and lower Rockies on Tuesday. This one will help elevate the risk for more severe weather and possible tornadoes across areas of Texas, Arkansas, and eastward into the Gulf States. Look for 2 possible waves of heavy storms starting some time on Tuesday, then another Wednesday or Thursday. We should be able to hone in on the timing late weekend for your workweek next week.
Another feature will be the breakout of very mild to very warm air as a ridge builds behind that next system. If all goes as depicted, we should see some late springtime temps from the Gulf all the way into the upper Midwest and Central States come mid-month. We’ll be watching that ridge closely as it tries to drift east towards the East Coast. This time of year we have to watch the cool marine layer, because it fights back pretty hard with the temperature contrast creating clouds, fog, and cool temps.
