Marco Fizzles Lessening Gulf Effects

Marco Fizzles Lessening Gulf Effects

Good morning everyone. We have some good news waking up this morning, with Marco fizzling down into a poorly organized tropical storm, which will help lessen the major impacts originally expected in that region. Meanwhile here, we are into our hot stretch, and it looks like it sticks around into tomorrow.

Locally, we have sunny skies this morning and it’ll be a beautiful but hot day overall. We’ll have the slight chance of a PM storm, but any action will be widely scattered. Highs today will be near 90.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow we’re going to break 90 for a fairly oppressive day with high humidity. This is due to a cold front nearing the area, and that’ll increase the risk for a higher concentration of PM thunderstorm action. Any thunderstorms that do form and more over the area, could contain damaging winds, torrential rain, frequent lighting, hail, and an isolated tornado.

A few days ago, I said I wanted to hold off on the forecast for Wednesday and beyond, because I wanted to see what Marco did to affect the big picture. Even without a direct impact here, a hurricane can grind things to a halt pattern-wise, or knock things in a different direction.

With Marco being weak, it allows everything to flow a little smoother and for that front to arrive on Tuesday as opposed to Wednesday or Thursday. This will equate into a cooler and less humid Wednesday, with highs in the low 80’s under sunny skies and a NW breeze.

We warm up Thursday, but I think the humidity stays in check. Expect mid to upper 80’s with a mix of sun and clouds.

Friday and beyond, we’ll be watching what Laura does in terms of her remnants and how she interacts with our next front. Regardless of what happens, Sunday is almost looking like a sure bet for a cooler and more comfortable day with highs 75-80 in most spots.

For the Gulf, Tropical Storm Marco will still have some impact with heavy rain, strong winds, and a mild to moderate storm surge; but nothing that it could’ve been or was expected to be. The steering mechanism in the atmosphere got involved, Marco sucked in some dry air, and it was never able to recover. This really was a blessing if I ever saw one, and it’s very rare that a strength forecast could be that far off, especially in the notorious Gulf.

Either way, areas impacted still need to take this seriously and listen to their local administrators, but we did avoid a large scale disaster.

Next up will be Laura, and she has the potential to be a much stronger system. Stay tuned as we wait for her to emerge into the Gulf and get a better idea where she may go.
