MODELS TREND AWAY MODERATE NYC SNOW SYSTEM NEAR MISS POSSIBLE – Good morning folks. We wake up this morning to possibly some good news. Overnight and morning model runs have not only begun to show an unimpressive system, but also have snow slipping south of the NYC Metro area, something I entertained as one of the scenarios.
First and foremost, we’ll have bright sunny skies today behind a fairly vigorous cold front that passed by yesterday. The wind will remain an issue throughout the day with gusts 35-40mph possible before calming down tonight, highs 45-50.
Clouds increase tonight as that piece-meal mass of energy slides our way. We’ll have the slight chance of a morning mix, then plain old rain scattered about the day tomorrow. Expect low to mid 50’s and no morning accumulations. The chance of rain, and a cold one at that, will continue into tomorrow night as the first area of energy passes by and cooler air moves back in.
The latest model runs have issues as to how far north the second wave of energy gets after the cooler air heads in. As of this point, we’re not ready to call it either way, but regardless, things are looking unimpressive. We’ll be watching closely for the models snapping back to the previous solutions as well as the last-minute “northwest trend” we’ve been experiencing all season.
As stated yesterday, this whole thing could also wind up just being a cloudy and raw Saturday for our area, with parts of the mid-Atlantic experiencing a period of snow. Either way, we’re not looking at a Nor’easter type event, even if the snow does make it up here.
Stay tuned.
