MORE APRIL NYC WINTRY WEATHER POSSIBLE AHEAD
MORE APRIL NYC WINTRY WEATHER POSSIBLE AHEAD – Good morning everyone. We are socked in with fog in a lot of locales this morning and it’ll be stubborn along the immediate shore for a while. This is courtesy of a warm front/cold front combo that’ll set the stage for the rest of our week, possibly including another taste of winter.
Look for fog to stick around until between late morning to early afternoon, just before that cold front arrives. Areas that do see a break will experience low to mid 60’s, whereas areas stuck in the soup will see a wide range of 50’s. Expect brief heavy rains as well as very gusty winds as the front begins its approach. Don’t be surprised to hear some rumbles of thunder, as well as gusts to near 50mph. For this reason, a Wind Advisory is in effect.
Tomorrow will be unseasonably cool, sunny skies, windy, with highs in the mid to upper 40’s. Overnight tomorrow, a weak disturbance will begin to swing by, which will also represent a slow moving, reinforcing shot of cool air. Increasing clouds will be on the menu, and the slight chance of a rain/snow mix into Friday morning. With most of the energy going to our north, it’ll bring in enough warm air to turn everything to rain on Friday as we bounce back into the 50’s; then cool off again as the disturbance swings by.
Our short range NAM models are coming into sights now; and for the time being, it looks as if we’re dancing on the rain/snow line Friday night into Saturday. Colder air moves back in Friday night, as energy hanging back from the Mississippi Valley swings by in conjunction with the cooler airmass. Once again, we play the game as to how close does low pressure get. Too close and we’re looking at a wet snow/mix, changing to rain. Too far, and we wind up with a cloudy and raw day Saturday. Just right, and we could see something similar like we had on Monday; a 4-8″ hit of heavy wet snow.
Spring is coming, I promise, but we’re going to have to endure this for a little while longer as our active and cool pattern continues. Happy January 94th!
