Nestor Makes Sunday NYC Afternoon Brush With Light Rain Amounts
Good morning everyone. Lots going on in the weather in terms of activity and changes going on, so bear with me as we have a big segment here. Tropical Storm Nestor is up in the batters box first after a nice day today. We won’t be getting any of the effects the Gulf Coast and interior Southeast is seeing, but it’ll somewhat ruin what was supposed to be a nice Sunday before he existed.
An active pattern is ramping up, and we’ll have several systems coming our way before we quiet down. Unfortunately, that quiet and dry period will probably come at the expense an an unseasonably cool/cold period at or near Halloween and beyond.
SATELLITE
For today, we have a quiet, sunny, calm, and seasonably cool day. If you have outdoor plans, today is the day to enjoy them with highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.
REGIONAL RADAR
We’ll being to increase the clouds overnight and into tomorrow morning as Tropical Storm Nestor is on the move. Whatever happens, he won’t be sticking around long and precipitation amounts should be fairly light.
As Nestor’s remnant low slips well to our south, its precipitation shield is going to expand and brush the area. Expect light rain to develop between 3-5pm tomorrow and possibly a brief chance at some moderate rain if he jogs slightly to the north. Either way, we get NONE of what’s going on down south. No strong winds, no severe weather, no storm surge, no flooding from rain. The best chance of rain will be along the south shore of Long Island and NYC, and decrease as you head north and upstate.
Look for highs in the low 60’s and any rain we do get, will end by around midnight.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
We start the week on a quiet note, with partial clearing on Monday and highs in the mid to upper 60’s. Another system will swing by on Tuesday to reinforce the seasonably cool/seasonal air, and most of the energy will go way north. However, as that cold front front swings by, we could see a period of afternoon or evening rain. Highs in the mid to upper 60’s as well on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, we clear out and develop a breeze as the day goes on. Sunny skies and low to mid 60’s will rule again for a 3 day stretch, then another vigorous system may visit next weekend.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

That weekend system won’t be the one bringing unseasonably cool or cold air to our area. There should be a reinforcing airmass behind it in a 2-4 day lag. This brings us to Halloween, where would might not see highs getting out of the 40’s depending on how strong this airmass is. If things play out, we could see 45-50 degree temps for a 3-5 day stretch as we begin November, with our first freeze or frost overnight in the NYC & Long Island area.
