Nor’Easter Possible Mid to Late Next Week
Good morning everyone. We have a new system bringing some light snows across parts of Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. Aside from higher elevations and interior parts of the Northeast, it’ll all change to a wintry mix, then all rain. However, this is just an appetizer for mid to late next week according to both the Euro & GFS weather models.
Our current system sets up the new one as much colder air filters in behind the sweeping cold front tomorrow. Even along coastal sections of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, high temperatures dip into the 30-35 degree range, with 15-20 degree temperatures likely overnight.
A new low pressure system will come out of the Rockies and take a deep dive into Texas, then move along the Gulf States before the jet stream takes it on a turn up the coast. Some questions still remain as far as the final track, but all signs indicate a possible Nor’Easter for the Mid-Atlantic; including coastal sections of upper North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and southern New Jersey.
That is a conservative take in terms of being 5-6 days out. That being said, the potential is there and the likelihood increasing, that our strong low pressure system is able to make it further north. This will translate to very heavy snows for parts of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New England. In fact, snowfall accumulations could reach 1-2ft + in areas that see the heaviest bands of snow.
Also, with powerful winds possible, we could see blizzard or near-blizzard conditions across the forecast area. Coastal flooding will also be an issue with enhanced tides due to low pressure pushing water in with a strong and consistent, ENE wind-flow.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Cloudy skies are here already, with light snow beginning in a few hours. We could see a coating to an inch or so before things change over to a wintry mix. Temps rise throughout the night, and we’ll have highs in the low 50’s tomorrow with on & off rain.
WEATHER RADAR
Monday and Tuesday are windy and cold, with highs in the near 30 range and 15-20 overnight. Clouds increase Wednesday with the chance of snow later in the day/overnight.
We’ll be watching that storm closely, but it could be a blockbuster if everything comes together “right”. Look for the possibility of heavy snow and wind throughout Thursday and into the nighttime hours before tapering off. Right now we’ll hold off on amounts, but someone could see 1-2ft+ of snow depending on where low pressure sets up.
