NYC ACTIVE WEATHER CONTINUES
NYC ACTIVE WEATHER CONTINUES – Good morning everyone and welcome to the midweek weather report. Things remain cloudy and cool today as an upper level low spins clouds, moisture, and northerly winds into the area. This will remain the case until mid to late afternoon, with periods of drizzle and light rain, then some partial clearing; highs in the mid 40’s. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day after some morning clouds, highs in the low to mid 50’s. Friday will be slightly cooler as easterly winds return off of the water, bringing some low to mid-level clouds mixed with sun, highs in the upper 40’s. On Friday night, we could see a little bit of scattered light rain as a warm front tries to fight it’s way back.

Over the weekend, it looks as if the warmer air will win out for one day, with clouds and sun on Saturday, dry, and highs in the mid 50’s. How high we go as far as temps will depend upon how much sun we get. It could go higher if the sun comes out earlier, or it could be slightly lower if the sun has a harder time peeking through. On Saturday night, clouds increase again, as this pesky front slouches across the area again, giving us mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of rain on Sunday; highs in the mid to upper 40’s. On Monday, a broader and more concentrated area of rain heads into the New York City area, with steady rain for a large part of the day and highs again in the mid to upper 40’s.
In the long range, we watch for the potential of 50’s and possibly some 60’s mid-week next week. We’ll have to see how much sun and how far north these air masses go relative to our area, but the potential is certainly there. After that, we watch a pattern change which will bring more seasonably cold air into the northeast, while remaining active system-wise. Looking at this pattern change carefully, I have low confidence as of now that this is long lasting and could only be with us for a week or two before snapping back into a similar pattern we have now. If there is any potential for snow, the first week of February will be it for the time being.
Satellite shows us our frontal system slipping to the south of us, while an upper air low spins back some clouds and drizzle. Meanwhile, the front gets hung up again in Texas and will return in several days with some clouds and rain.
Widely scattered showers transit the area, while drizzle not showing up on radar remains stubborn until mid to late afternoon.
