NYC BAKES AS BARRY FLOODS

NYC BAKES AS BARRY FLOODS

Good morning everyone. Barry continues to wreak havoc in the central Gulf States as well as into the Mississippi Valley. Eventually, whats left of him will provide some scattered tropical showers and storms in our area mid to late week. Regardless, we have a very warm to hot week ahead; and whether or not we get a heatwave on paper or not, will have to be looked at daily because 1-2 degrees can make a difference.

We have a sunny, hot, and dry day today, with a steady NW flow and essentially not a cloud in the sky. Highs today in the low 90’s, slightly cooler at the shore.

We continue the sun tomorrow, but we “cool” off slightly as Canadian air slips in. It sounds cool, right? Well it’ll still be 85-90 in most spots, so don’t get out the windbreaker in celebration. Humidity will remain low for 1 more day, so it’ll be comfortable out there tomorrow.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

On Tuesday, we “warm” back up, with upper 80’s to low 90’s and increasing humidity. Clouds may start to dot the area as moisture and humidity begin to increase.

For Wednesday, the oppressive stuff begins. Look for muggy, hot, and tropical conditions; highs in the low to mid 90’s. Barry’s moisture approaching could also touch off a heavy shower or storm in the afternoon.

Timing of these tropical showers and storms will be key as far as getting a true heatwave is concerned. If we get through our heating hours without too many clouds and the temporary cooling effect of any showers or storms, we may attain heatwave status. Remember folks, we’re only talking a small amount of degrees here, so whether we get one or not, it’s still going to be muggy and very warm/hot. Highs Thursday in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

On Friday, we dry out slightly before the humidity smacks us in the face again. It’s still July so there will be SOME humidity out there, but look for it to be slightly more comfortable compared to Wednesday and Thursday. Highs Friday in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

For your weekend, if the front holds back till the evening/nighttime hours on Saturday, it could wind up being the hottest day of this stretch. Expect possible mid to upper 90’s IF the timing of the front holds, and the chance of some heavy showers and storms late evening/night.

If everything holds, Sunday will be very warm and dry, highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.
