Barry Inundates Gulf Plus Heatwave Questions Remain

Good morning everyone! Skies this morning are clearing up rather quickly after yesterday’s delayed shower and thunderstorm action. Much needed rain will now give way to a very hot period coming up; some of which could be slightly hampered just enough, to not be considered a “heatwave” by definition, but we have to wait on that.

Our front that gave us a period of showers and storms last night is now long gone, giving way to a reset of our very warm to hot airmass, and possibly a heatwave coming up. We take baby steps first though as we start off with a very warm/hot and drying day. Humidity will actually decrease a bit as the day goes on and the ground dries out courtesy of some steady westerlies. Highs today in the upper 80’s to low 90’s.

We’ll also have a very slight chance of a thunderstorm later this afternoon, so watch the skies closely in order to see if anything localized pops up in your area.

Our weekend is now locked in and we’ve calling for this for quite some time. Sunny and very warm/hot conditions continue, and we remain relatively dry compared to what it could be this time of year. We’ll have upper 80’s to low 90’s both tomorrow and Sunday, with slightly cooler temps at the beaches.

We take our weekend weather and continue it to start our week. Sunny skies and upper 80’s to low 90’s dominate on Monday, but then we start turning up the juice on Tuesday humidity-wise.

Tuesday through Sunday will be the focus to see if we can nab a textbook heatwave out of this airmass. So far, Tuesday and Wednesday seem to put us on a good path, with low 90’s on Tuesday and 95-100 temps possible on Wednesday.

After that, Barry begins to possibly and temporarily play a role in our weather. Does it completely fizzle? Or does it help energize a weak front. That’ll be the question for Thursday and will be the main factor on whether we pull this off or not. Don’t be mistaken though, we are not seeing any kind of relief whatsoever, its just a matter of other we see mid to upper 80’s and oppressive, moist, tropical, conditions; or do we continue in the 90’s.

Barry or no Barry, we remain hot next Friday and Saturday, and we’ll see if we get some bonus days next Sunday and that following Monday.

As far as Barry is concerned, it’ll continue to develop and organize. The biggest issue with Barry will be widespread flooding and storm surge. Any system that moves slowly and spends this much time over water, will be bringing a lot of water with it; so for those in the Bayou and coastal island off of Louisiana and Mississippi, will be in big trouble surge-wise.
